What health precautions should be taken before travelling to Guinea-Bissau?
Before your departure, you should make a medical appointment. Under the circumstances, doctors will prescribe the most appropriate vaccines. It is essential that you consult the information that is made available to travelers by the government entities responsible for the external relations of your home country.
One of the health issues you should be more aware of is malaria, which exists in Guinea-Bissau. It is a parasitic disease that is caused by the bite of a mosquito (Anopheles). Symptoms of the disease are digestive disorders, severe headaches, high fever accompanied by chills. In more severe cases, if not treated properly, the disease can lead to death – cerebral malaria.
Given this scenario, you should avoid stinging to the fullest. And to do this are suggested the use of mosquito nets impregnated with insecticides, the application of repellents directly on the skin (especially at dawn and dusk) and the use of clothes that protect arms and legs completely.
Another health-related suggestion is to prefer the consumption of water that is bottled.
